Cadillac confirms December opening of American F1 engine factory ahead of 2029 debut
General Motors president Mark Reuss has confirmed that Cadillac's new Formula 1 engine factory in Charlotte, North Carolina, will open on December 18, 2026, marking another step towards the American manufacturer's planned introduction of its own power unit in 2029. Cadillac has confirmed that its new Formula 1 engine factory in Charlotte, North Carolina, will open on December 18, 2026. The announcement was made by General Motors president Mark Reuss at the Autosport Business Exchange conference in New York. The facility will be operated by GM Performance Power Units, a company established by General GM and TWG Motorsports to develop and manufacture engines for the Cadillac Formula 1 team. This is part of Cadillac's strategy to become a complete works operation rather than relying on external suppliers. The new factory will be located near General Motors’ existing technical facilities in Charlotte. However, the opening of the factory does not mean Cadillac’s Formula 1 car will be ready to race immediately.
