Cooler temperatures arrive in Charlotte region through weekend - Clone

Chilly mornings, lovely afternoons and dry conditions to last through next week Cooler temperatures are expected to arrive in the Charlotte region through the weekend, with temperatures only about 5 degrees below normal for Saturday and Sunday. High pressure from the St. Lawrence Valley to the Mid-Atlantic is building a cold air damming wedge east of the mountains, creating a cold, dry pattern that will last throughout the week. Temperatures east of these mountains will fall to near 50 in Charlotte, near 40 in the mountain valleys, with only patchy frost expected in the French Broad headwaters. The upper-level blocking pattern will continue into early next week, keeping us in the quiet side of the block, allowing highs to modify upward a degree or two for Sunday, into the 70s for Monday, and mid 70s on Tuesday. However, a northern-stream high and another dry wedge will bring temperatures briefly cool briefly back to near 70 before climbing above normal again to end the week, allowing temperatures to rise above normal.
