A Charlotte photographer’s portraits highlight the humanity of the local Latino community. The project, “Latinx Portraits,” opens in east Charlotte on Saturday. John Mejía, a photographer in Charlotte, has started a project called "Latinx Portraits" to highlight the humanity of the local Latino community. The project, set up in 2016 with an Arts and Science Council grant, began in 2023 and has photographed 67 people and aims to reach 100 portraits. The exhibit will feature about 20 of these portraits. Mejia says the images show the positive contributions of the Latino community in Charlotte. The opening of the exhibit will be held at Manolo's Bakery on Central Avenue.
