PUNTA GORDA — An investigation into a high-profile verbal dispute has been completed with no charges. An investigation into a verbal dispute between Steve Denton, the candidate's spouse, and an elections worker in Punta Gorda, has been concluded with no charges filed. The dispute stemmed from a disagreement over political signs near a polling location. Denton had refused to move his truck with a campaign sign for his wife, current City Council Member Janis Denton. The Punta Guada Police Department stated that the case was closed due to the threshold not being met for a criminal prosecution to proceed. The initial incident report stated that Denton made "choice/abrasive/derogatory words" against the worker and threatened to "take her on" and "kick her ass".
