Winter Weather Advisory in Effect for the Mountains

Travel could be slick in the mountains with up to 4" of snow possible for parts of the region. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties until 5am Friday, with potential snowfall totals of up to 4″ possible for elevations above 3500′. Closer to the Tennesse border, areas above 4000′ could see up to 6-6 inches of snowfall. Strong winds across the high country are expected to gust 40-50 mph through Thursday evening, which will cause wind chills to reach the teens and 20s. Snow showers will be intermittent throughout Friday morning, with travel being affected by slick conditions and reduced visibility.
