Charlotte Art Vending Machine Opens at Myers Park Coffee Shop
Forget chips and soda — this Charlotte vending machine dispenses original local art. A 100% cashless vending machine at Myers Park Coffee Shop in Charlotte has been installed at Higher Grounds by Manolo, offering original artwork from 15 Charlotte-area artists priced between $5 and $50 instead of chips or candy bars. The project, named ARTS, is a project by local artist Caro Yanez, who founded ARTS Collective in January and aims to connect Charlotte-based artists with residents and visitors in places they already frequent. Each piece sold through the machine comes with contact information to help collectors track down the artists' larger work. Funding for the project was provided through the City of Charlotte's Creative Growth Grant program, which aims to bring art into more neighborhoods and public spaces. A second ARTS machine is planned for another high-traffic location.
