Man, 62, on electric scooter dies in NE Charlotte crash, says CMPD

CHARLOTTE, NC, (June 09, 2024) - A 62-year-old man was riding an electric scooter in northeast Charlotte on Sunday night when he was fatally hit by a motorist, who fled the scene, according to police.

The victim, identified by officials as Curtis Bing, was struck around 9:45 p.m. in the 5800 block of North Tryon Street. Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) responded to the location and found Bing on the roadway, suffering from major injuries.

Tragically, Bing was pronounced dead at the crash site. His city of residence was not available.

Authorities are looking for the hit-and-run suspect, who remains at large.

This is an ongoing investigation.

“Bicyclists, scooterists, pedestrians, and wheelchair users are particularly vulnerable on the road, and many factors can contribute to serious crashes,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“It is imperative to come to a determination of the exact cause of these types of accidents. An attorney has the resources to review applicable insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, run background checks, and locate witnesses. We carefully guide the family of the victim through the process.”

“Hit-and-run drivers are subject to criminal charges following an accident or collision that injures another road user, like a pedestrian, scooter rider, or bicyclist. Separate from criminal charges, victims of such cases may be entitled to a civil lawsuit,” said Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney.

“In addition to a police report, an attorney will carefully review what may have contributed to the crash,” Bond added.

Pending the results of any investigations, the family members of Curtis Bing may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Survivors of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, said, “Grieving families of victims are sometimes overwhelmed by the legal processes that are in place to protect their rights.”

“An attorney can be a valuable and compassionate resource to help guide a family during this difficult time, and ensure that those left behind receive the restitution they are entitled to.”
