First Alert: Dry, quiet weather brings cool nights, warming trend to Charlotte area
Chilly mornings, lovely afternoons and dry conditions to last through next week The North Carolina area is experiencing a cold-air damming wedge, which will keep temperatures down east of the Appalachians. High pressure from the St. Lawrence Valley to the Mid-Atlantic will create this wedge, trapping cold air east of Appalachians, causing temperatures to fall. Temperatures will reach the upper 60s by late morning, then peak near 70 around 3 p.m., before cooling back through the 60s into the evening. Watch for patchy stratus, low gray clouds, and valley fog along the Blue Ridge Escarpment. A stalled upper-level system will keep weather settled early next week, allowing highs to rise a degree or two, reaching the 70s Monday and the mid-70s Tuesday.
