A Massive Playground for Planespotters Just Opened at This Airport
If you like planes, this one’s for you! Charlotte Douglas International Airport has opened a massive playground for aviation enthusiasts, named Airport Overlook. The space, which spans 600,000 square feet, features an overlook deck that allows visitors to observe planes taking off and landing at the airport. In addition to the lookout deck, the space also features aviation-themed attractions such as an airport-themed playground for kids and a memorial to a fallen USAir Flight 1016. Admission is free and visitors can access the space any day between 8am and 10pm.

Aviation aficionados have something to celebrate. Charlotte Douglas International Airport recently unveiled its much-anticipated space, a playground made for the planespotting community. Dubbed Airport Overlook, the space sprawls across 600,000 square feet, and it's an overlook area that allows visitors to marvel at planes while they're taking off and landing at the Charlotte airport through its lookout deck.
But that's not all. In addition to the deck, which is less than two miles from the airport, the space features aviation-themed attractions for the whole family. Visitors can find an airport-themed playground for kids and an authentic retired US military fighter jet on display. On the same grounds, the space also features a memorial to USAir Flight 1016, which is infamous for crashing while trying to land at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport back in 1994.
If you're worried about food, Airport Overlook has got you on that front, too. Thanks to a dedicated food truck area with covered picnic tables, you can grab a snack between your planespotting endeavors. And the best news? Admission is free, and you don't need a plane ticket to access the space. Just show up any day between 8 am and 10 pm, and you're good to go.
